Installing your outdoor sensorLast Updated: February 05, 2019
Once you have completed installing your indoor sensor, remove the battery tab from your outdoor sensor. As soon as you remove the battery tab, you should see the indicator light flash:
Selecting your location for your outdoor sensor
The outdoor sensor should be setup within 100-150 feet of your indoor sensor depending on line of sight. The outdoor sensor is designed to pick up noise near activity zones. Here is a good visualization of good outdoor sensor locations
When setting up sensors outdoors, try to avoid setting them up in an areas where wind is prone to gather. Here is a good visualization of how wind vectors increase wind speed on a patio, avoid placing the sensors anywhere near the green arrows.
You should also avoid placing the outdoor sensor on any unstable structures like a tree limb or bush. If the sensors move often or vibrate this will affect their ability to measure noise. Avoid placing the sensors within direct line of sight of your pool pump or air conditioning unit.
There is a slight notch on the gray ring around the sensor like this. The better the line of sight, the stronger the signal strength will be. The outdoor sensors can be 100-150 feet from the indoor sensor. The line of sight is determined by the antenna, which is pointed at this notch:
The antenna runs across the black line and broadcasts outward in the direction of the red/yellow waves. Lining up that notch to be pointed 90 degrees away from your indoor sensor can help improve range if you are pushing across long distances or going through a lot of various obstructions, such as walls, appliances or plumbing.
Setup Outdoor sensor
Start by choosing outdoor sensor, this is the sensor we will be installing today. Please wait 5 minutes after removing the battery tab and installing your indoor sensors before attempting to configure your outdoor sensor through the app. This will allow the outdoor sensor and the indoor sensor to communicate and establish a solid connection. This will make app set up move much quicker.
Once you remove the battery tab, make sure the indicator light flashes white. This signifies the batteries and the sensor has functional power.
Your sensors mac address should pre-populate in the serial number field below. Please enter a name for the sensor and then press next.
If you receive the following error message, make sure you are installing your outdoor sensor within 150 feet of your indoor sensor. Once the sensor is within range, press ‘Try again’ and then enter the serial number manually.
Once you have chosen a name, mount your sensor and press next. You will then be instructed to take a picture of the install location.
It is best to take a wide angle shot that includes the sensor and the environment. This will come in handy when reviewing any alerts from that property, and troubleshooting any potential issues.
After 2-5 minutes, the sensor should connect and you will see the following screen.
